Chinese consumer electronics company TCL sues Samsung in Los Angeles federal court, alleging Samsung falsely advertises certain televisions as using “Mini LED” technology. TCL filed the lawsuit on Monday and says Samsung marketed its M Model TVs as featuring Mini LED, a display technology intended to improve picture quality.
According to TCL, Samsung took what it describes as a cheaper non–Mini LED model and promoted it as a “supreme” Mini LED product, drawing buyers with pricing that TCL says was attractive. TCL argues that the alleged mislabeling misled consumers seeking the higher picture quality associated with Mini LED and unfairly harmed TCL’s sales and goodwill, while also affecting TCL’s technology.
Samsung, in a statement, says it plans to “vigorously” defend itself and stands behind the quality and accuracy of its product descriptions. The company disputes TCL’s claims, setting up a legal dispute over how Samsung’s televisions are marketed and whether consumers were misled.
