Perplexity is rolling out a “Hybrid Compute” feature for its Mac app that aims to keep sensitive user information local. The system divides AI work between an on-device model running on the Mac and cloud-based AI, so only some parts of a task are processed off the device.
According to outlets covering the launch, Hybrid Compute uses a “privacy gate” or detection logic in the Mac app to decide what information should be handled locally. AppleInsider reports the app can identify personal details such as names and phone numbers and prompts the user when such information is detected, while other coverage describes the feature as routing appropriate content to on-device processing.
