Anthropic is releasing Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1, positioning them as its most advanced models for coding and knowledge work. The company says Fable 5.1 delivers similar or better results than the previous Fable 5 at low to medium effort, and stronger performance at higher effort levels. It also claims improvements over multiple competitors on benchmarks.

Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 are described as the same underlying model with different safeguard levels. Fable 5.1 is broadly available, while Mythos 5.1 is limited to U.S. organizations and individuals in Anthropic’s trusted access programs, including a new Life Sciences Verification Program for certain biology use cases. Anthropic also highlights security changes, including improved safeguards, a reduction in cybersecurity false positives, limits on exploit development, and a rollout of watermarking and a detection API in private preview.

Outlets also stress the enterprise implications: Anthropic is changing pricing for cached context used by persistent or long-running agents, and is aligning the release with efforts around monitoring and containment. Slashdot notes recent cyber evaluation incidents involving permissive test conditions, with Anthropic pausing external evaluations and later resuming them with additional monitoring.
