S&P Global is considering a spinout of its Capital IQ Pro data and research platform, in discussions that could lead to the creation of a standalone company valued at several billion dollars, according to Bloomberg. The talks are described as preliminary and may not result in any transaction.
Bloomberg reports that one option under review is to list Capital IQ Pro separately, potentially implying a valuation in the high single-digit billions of dollars. The Economic Times adds that the software, known as CapIQ, sits within S&P Global’s Market Intelligence division and is used by finance professionals to research and access information on more than 60 million private companies.
The outlets also link the idea to broader corporate restructuring at S&P Global. The Economic Times notes that CEO Martina Cheung has been reshaping the company’s portfolio, including a July spin-off of its automotive intelligence unit into Mobility Global. While some investors are said to respond positively to the prospect of separation, both reports emphasize that the discussions remain early and S&P Global could ultimately keep Capital IQ Pro within the group.
