Former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith is named in a civil lawsuit in which a Native American investment company alleges it was defrauded of $2.5 million tied to a renewable energy project.
According to reports, Kituwah LLC filed the case in Delaware against Smith and business partners associated with 4/13 Solutions. The investment is described in different accounts as intended for a solar farm or a wind farm project in Texas. The company alleges the funds were not used for the stated project and instead were diverted to repay or cover obligations connected to earlier investor dealings.
Multiple outlets characterize the allegations as similar to a Ponzi scheme or an “operation” that used later funds to address prior commitments. Reports also say Kituwah is seeking repayment after claiming it did not receive funds back and that the investment was lost.
