The Electoral Commission (IEC) says it rejects claims by the African National Congress (ANC) that technical problems affected a small number of its candidate submissions. The IEC states that its online nomination system remains accessible up to the August 28 deadline.
The IEC’s response addresses allegations raised by the ANC about disruptions during the nomination process. In contrast to the ANC’s position, the IEC maintains that there is no basis to conclude that system unavailability or failures prevented affected submissions before the deadline. The dispute centers on whether any technical issue occurred and, if so, whether it impacted the ability to submit candidates.
While the ANC frames the issue as a technical glitch that affected some entries, the IEC says its systems were available until the cutoff date and therefore that the nomination process functioned as required. The matter is confined to the status of certain candidate submissions and the responsibility for any alleged failure to be processed by the end of the nomination period.
