The incident occurs after incessant rain, when parts of the roof fall onto the facility. Officials begin assessing the damage at the historic shed site, which houses steam locomotives.
One outlet says this is the second time the shed is damaged in connection with heavy rainfall, following a similar incident reported earlier on June 21. Another report also notes that employees and workers call for urgent renovation and stronger safety measures to prevent further incidents. Injured people are taken to Darjeeling District Hospital for treatment. In response to the collapse, joyride services, including a 16 km route, are cancelled, while senior railway officials review the situation and take stock of the impact.
