Amazon India says it has created more than 1.6 lakh seasonal work opportunities across its operations network as India’s festive shopping period approaches. The company says most of the associates are already onboarded and being trained to handle higher order volumes.

The new seasonal workforce is spread across hundreds of Indian cities, supporting fulfillment and delivery activities such as picking, packing, shipping and last-mile operations. Amazon also says seasonal associates have access to safety and welfare programs available to other associates.

Context for the hiring is rising demand during festive promotions, with Amazon and other e-commerce players expecting increased customer spending and traffic across categories including electronics, fashion, beauty, gifting, groceries and home products. While both outlets emphasize Amazon’s role in preparing for the surge, one report focuses on the broader “festive shopping demand” framing, and the other provides additional operational details such as the nationwide rollout across major and tier-2/tier-3 cities. The Free Press Journal also notes Meesho’s earlier estimate of seasonal hiring across its seller and logistics ecosystem for the same period.
