Apple TV and Yahoo Sports announce a partnership that brings free alternate live broadcasts, or “altcasts,” for a limited set of MLB and MLS games. The outlets say Yahoo Sports will provide its own coverage for four Apple TV events over the next two months, with the altcasts streaming on Yahoo Sports platforms.
Variety reports the schedule includes two MLB “Friday Night Baseball” games and two Major League Soccer matches. Yahoo Sports also says the alternate streams feature Yahoo Sports experts on the call, offering viewers a different commentary experience from Apple’s standard broadcast.
A key detail across the reports is that the altcasts run only for the first two innings. After that window, the coverage stops or the audio/video stream is no longer provided under the same format, limiting the length of the alternate viewing experience.
