Andhra Pradesh’s literacy rate increases and surpasses the national average over the past two years, according to reports. One outlet cites a rise from 72.60% in 2024 to 82.10% in 2026, compared with a national average of about 80.9%.
The improvement is attributed to the “Akshara Andhra” programme launched by the state government. Another outlet adds that the state aims for total literacy by September 2027 and reports that around 25 lakh people have gained literacy skills through the initiative so far.

In addition to literacy training, the state is working on reintegrating out-of-school children into formal schooling and improving learning conditions and student welfare in schools.
