SpiceJet finalises lease agreements to bring 20 aircraft into its fleet between mid-October and mid-November, as it ramps up capacity for the winter schedule and year-end holiday travel period. The airline plans to induct 15 Boeing and five Airbus planes, with arrangements including damp leases and wet leases.
In damp leases, the lessor provides the aircraft with flight crew and maintenance support, while SpiceJet provides its cabin crew. In wet leases, the lessor operates the aircraft with complete crew and also covers insurance and maintenance. NDTV frames the move primarily as preparation for seasonal demand gains during the winter and festive period. The Economic Times adds operational details, including that one Airbus model will be the A321, which can carry more passengers than SpiceJet’s current narrow-body fleet, helping add seats on high-demand routes.
SpiceJet says the additional aircraft are aimed at reaching about 200 daily flights during the upcoming holidays and winter schedule, supporting both domestic and international network capacity. The Economic Times also notes that this follows a similar induction of 20 aircraft ahead of the 2025-26 winter schedule, and references related engine overhaul efforts.
