Osun State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted security agencies about an alleged plan by a purported Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction to invade and take over local government council secretariats across the state. The party says the move would involve PDP chairmen and councillors backed by political thugs recruited inside and outside Osun.
In a statement signed by APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party claims the alleged plot is linked to the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke and cites alleged collaboration with officials of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). Both outlets also reference a Supreme Court ruling describing the PDP council executives as “persons unknown to the law.” The APC urges the Osun State Police Command, DSS and NSCDC to intervene to prevent disruption of public peace. The statement also recalls the killing of APC council chairman Remi Abass in Irewole Local Government, and notes that the dispute over council tenure is before the Court of Appeal in Akure.
Neither outlet reports confirmation from police or other agencies, and both note that the Osun PDP and the state government did not respond to the allegations at the time of publication.
