India’s services sector activity expands in August, according to HSBC’s India Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI). The seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services PMI Business Activity Index increases from 53.3 in July to 54.1 in August, indicating continued growth in activity.

Outlets report broadly consistent figures on the pace of expansion. One report says the growth rate cools to its lowest level in more than four years, even as demand conditions remain supportive and new business inflows continue to rise. Another report characterizes the August reading as an acceleration versus July, citing the PMI increase to 54.1 and highlighting stronger employment-related growth.

Both accounts attribute the improvement to sustained demand and ongoing inflows of new work, while differing in how they frame the trend—either as a cooling of momentum after a prolonged expansion or as faster service-sector growth in the month.
