Sugar prices are easing in India, with average retail rates falling by 3.85% to ₹62.57 per kg over the past week, according to government data cited by multiple outlets. Retail prices move down after interventions intended to improve supply and curb volatility.

The data also show wholesale prices dropping in parallel. One report states wholesale rates decline to ₹57.62 per kg on September 2, from ₹60.39 per kg a week earlier, as tracked by the consumer affairs ministry. However, retail prices do not adjust immediately to wholesale changes, with some traders continuing to sell from older inventories.

Outlets also note that consumers may still face higher prices than a month ago, reflecting remaining stock rather than fresh supply adjustments. Government steps highlighted include measures such as import allowances and stock curbs, aimed at stabilizing prices across markets.
