Ebonyi State Police report arresting hundreds of suspects and recovering firearms following investigations into reported incidents between April and September 2026. The State Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, says the arrests relate to 372 reported cases and involves large numbers of suspects, including 660 males and 39 females.

Outlets differ slightly on the total number of people arrested and some recovered items. Vanguard reports 620 suspects were arrested and that police recovered 31 firearms, 33 rounds of ammunition, and three vehicles. Daily Post Nigeria reports 699 suspects arrested, citing the same figures for sex distribution and the same reporting period, and also links the suspects to alleged self-kidnapping and other offences involving firearms.

Both accounts attribute the disclosure to police at the Command’s headquarters in Abakaliki and describe the arrests as part of an ongoing operation targeting crimes reported in the state during the six-month period.
