Aboitiz Foundation and GCash launch the CarbonPH x GForest Project to plant and grow one million trees in Balamban, Cebu, over the next five years. The initiative targets about 1,200 hectares of forest and coastal areas, aiming to restore ecosystems and strengthen climate resilience while supporting local communities.
The project combines two long-running environmental commitments. CarbonPH is Aboitiz Foundation’s nature-based climate action program focused on reforestation, watershed management, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem restoration, with a stated long-term goal of protecting and restoring forest landscapes in Cebu. GCash’s GForest program supports tree planting efforts through its partnership-based approach. While both outlets describe the same core plan and scale, their emphasis differs slightly: one highlights the partnership’s overall five-year commitment and project framing, while the other focuses more on the specific 1,200-hectare restoration area and the methods used, including agroforestry and indigenous tree planting.
