WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a feature that lets some Android users chat with compatible third-party AI agents inside the messaging app. A new “Agents” area is said to allow users to configure up to five agents by adding connection details such as API keys. Each agent is expected to have its own separate conversation, and an agent is designed to access only the messages shared within that chat.

Multiple reports indicate the feature is in limited rollout and is also reflected in early testing and documentation. Sources note that these agent chats are not expected to have end-to-end encryption, because messages would be handled through a Meta service connected to the agent developer. While one outlet focuses on the reported user-facing setup, another points to WhatsApp documentation confirming the third-party agent system and suggests upcoming changes that could make the feature easier to access as testing progresses.
