Anthropic is adding CarPlay integration to its Claude iOS app, according to code spotted in a recent app update. With CarPlay support, users can interact with Claude through the car’s infotainment system using voice-based conversations, hands-free while driving.
Apple introduced support for third-party chatbot apps in CarPlay in iOS 26.4. To participate, chatbot apps must implement a voice control screen using Apple’s CarPlay template and receive the required entitlement from Apple. Sources also note that Claude can answer questions through CarPlay but does not gain the ability to control vehicle or iPhone functions. In addition, users need to open Claude from the CarPlay interface because CarPlay does not support third-party wake words.
MacRumors describes the CarPlay user experience as a “Start a hands-free conversation” flow with options for starting new chats, accessing recent conversations, and controls to mute/unmute, end, and resume dialogue. 9to5Mac emphasizes the broader result: CarPlay now works with five major chatbot apps after Claude’s addition, continuing an earlier expansion that included ChatGPT.
