Reliance Jio Platforms marks a decade since its commercial mobile launch in September 2016, with company leadership saying it is now looking beyond India. In a letter to employees on the 10-year milestone, Jio Platforms Managing Director and Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani says the company plans to take its made-in-India technology—spanning connectivity, digital products, enterprise solutions and artificial intelligence—to global markets.

Jio’s entry began in a way that disrupted India’s telecom market, with free voice calls at launch and promotional free services for an initial period. The company says it quickly built scale, reaching 50 million subscribers within 83 days and 100 million in less than six months. It now reports 533.3 million customers as of June 30, 2026, and more than 23 exabytes of monthly data traffic, describing itself as one of the world’s largest data operators.

Across the two reports, the central emphasis is consistent: Jio frames its first decade as laying the foundation for “Digital India,” including accelerating the country’s transition to 5G and expanding connectivity for homes and businesses. Both outlets cite Ambani’s view that the next phase focuses on exporting technology and strengthening India’s role as a creator of technology for the world, rather than positioning Jio solely as a telecom operator.
