Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi appoints Dr Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of the Gumel Emirate, following the death of his father, the late Emir Ahmed Muhammad-Sani. Premium Times reports the late emir dies on Thursday, 3 September, after a 46-year reign.
