The Tokyo International Film Festival announces new additions for its 2024 edition, set for October 26 to November 4. The festival is launching a “Nippon Cinema Now” competition with two awards—Best Film and a Special Jury Prize. Organizers say the competition will include a jury made up of both Japanese and international industry figures.
The festival also introduces the “Kashiko Kawakita Award,” a new prize intended to honor women in film. In addition, TIFF is bringing back its Crosscut Asia section in a refreshed format, called “Crosscut Asia+,” which will program films as part of the festival’s broader regional coverage.
