China’s Ministry of Finance is putting about 200 billion yuan (around $45 billion) into major banks through new subscriptions, as part of efforts to shore up the economy. The finance ministry will subscribe to 130 billion yuan in a placement for the Agricultural Bank of China and 70 billion yuan for Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).

Other large state entities are also participating. NDTV reports that China National Tobacco Corporation is a significant subscriber in both bank placements, indicating broader state-backed support across multiple financial institutions. The move is framed as additional capital support for large lenders, with the underlying aim of strengthening financial capacity.

Across the available reporting, the focus centers on the size and recipients of the funding and on the identities of key subscribers, rather than on market impact or specific policy motivations beyond general economic stabilization.
