Scores of chieftains and members of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogo Oluwa and Surulere local government areas of Oyo State are defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). They announce their move at the weekend, joining the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the reports, the defectors include leaders identified as Apostle Taiwo Olaleru and Alhaji Bashiru Ganiyu. They say they left APM, which is described as the party of the current state administration, over concerns about the party’s conduct and credibility. They also state they are joining the ADC to help the party’s governorship bid and to support delivery of democratic benefits to their communities.
Across outlets, the reception of the new members is attributed to ADC leadership, including the ADC governorship candidate, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke, who welcomes them and says they will have equal opportunities within the party while being urged to work for its success in the run-up to 2027.
