Novartis India announces it will acquire Pfizer’s Minipress trademarks registered in India for ₹1,250 crore. The transaction also covers certain intellectual property rights linked to the brands. Novartis says its board approves the deal, and that it signs an asset purchase agreement along with trademark assignment deeds with Pfizer India entities as part of the same completion process.

Novartis adds that Minipress XL has generated ₹228.6 crore in revenue and grew at a compound annual growth rate of 6.3% over the past four years, citing IQVIA data. It says Minipress XL contains prazosin and is used primarily for hypertension, and also for urinary symptoms in benign prostatic hyperplasia.

The outlets also report that Pfizer stops marketing, distribution and sale of Minipress XL in India from September 7, 2026, after Pfizer decides to stop manufacturing the medicine. Pfizer says it will receive a lump-sum payment of about USD 13.9 million from its US-based parent related to the discontinuation. While the two sources focus on the acquisition terms, they differ in detail beyond the trademark purchase, including disclosed revenue figures and the timeline for Pfizer’s discontinuation.
