Lere Olayinka, a senior aide to Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, says the opposition is made up of “confused confusionists.” He made the remark while responding to competing accusations among supporters of rival opposition political platforms ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to reports, supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) claim that Peter Obi, who is linked to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential ticket, is working to help President Bola Tinubu win re-election by splitting opposition votes. In response, NDC supporters allege that ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar is aligned with Tinubu due to a long-standing personal relationship, and that his refusal to step aside for Obi is intended to divide opposition support.
Olayinka addresses both sides’ claims, summarising the allegations publicly on X and then concluding that the “opposition” is “confused.” The outlets present his comments as a rebuttal to the back-and-forth accusations, without independently verifying the underlying political claims.
