An archive of Oasis recordings, including live concerts, rehearsals, soundchecks and conversations between Noel and Liam Gallagher, is set to be auctioned, even though the band has raised objections. Reported sale estimates reach up to £1.6m, with coverage describing the material as previously unheard and rare.
The collection is compiled by former Oasis sound engineer Huw Richards, who worked with the band from the release of 1994’s “Definitely Maybe” until 2001. Sources say it contains 209 DAT tapes, 73 analogue cassettes, and three MiniDiscs, along with more than 100 hours of recordings. The recordings include 63 live shows, plus rehearsal material and additional audio described as “unfiltered” dialogue.
Outlets also differ slightly in emphasis: the Evening Standard focuses on the band’s “express concerns” and the archive’s scope, while the Guardian highlights the estimate and technical details of the media format. NME reports the band is unhappy with the sale and wants the recordings returned.
