The International Press Centre (IPC) Safety and Protection of Journalists (SPJ) Hub condemns an attack on media workers returning from an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kano State. The incident occurs on Saturday, September 5, 2026, after journalists cover a Tinubu Support Group rally at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Reports say a vehicle carrying journalists from several media organisations is attacked by hoodlums as it heads back. The attackers repeatedly hit the vehicle, injuring the driver and causing some journalists to be hurt by broken glass from damaged windows. One report notes a Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM vehicle is damaged in the process.

The IPC-SPJ Hub describes the assault as a serious concern for press freedom and journalist safety, particularly as political activity and rallies increase ahead of general elections. It quotes IPC officials calling for stronger protection from security agencies and urges media organisations and reporters to take additional safety precautions, including carrying out security assessments while covering elections and political events.
