WhatsApp is reportedly developing a “guest calls” feature that would let people without a WhatsApp account join voice and video calls. The proposed approach uses secure invite links so participants can join from a browser or WhatsApp Web rather than downloading the app or signing up.
According to reporting, the feature builds on WhatsApp’s existing guest chat mechanism, extending similar underlying functionality to calls. One outlet says the host would generate and share a call link from the Calls tab, and the link would open the call interface for recipients who are not on WhatsApp. Both sources also describe host controls, including manual approval for each guest request before entry.
The outlets broadly agree on the core concept, the link-based joining process, and host approval. They differ mainly in emphasis and detail—one source frames the feature as enabling calls “without app installation,” while the other focuses on how the link would work on WhatsApp Web and the expectation that end-to-end encryption would be maintained. The feature is still described as under development and not yet broadly available for testing.
