Polish authorities detain a fifth suspect and press charges in an investigation into the Zondacrypto crypto exchange. According to reports, the probe has already targeted multiple individuals tied to the platform after customers reported that they could not access funds.
The exchange, which operated as BitBay before rebranding as Zondacrypto in 2021, stops trading in April amid customer withdrawals being frozen. Media accounts say customers are locked out and that the company estimates losses of at least $94 million. Decrypt also reports that two chief executives of the exchange vanish, one four years apart from the other, leaving around 1.3 million clients unable to withdraw.
While outlets agree on the existence of the stalled withdrawals and the large scale of customer impact, they differ in emphasis: CoinDesk focuses on the formal charging of a fifth suspect and the $94 million loss estimate, while Decrypt highlights the missing executives and the number of affected clients.
