Lawal Daura, former Director General of Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) and a vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), says he supported and protected late President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration while in office. He denies claims that he was part of any “cabal,” arguing that his intelligence role required proximity to the president.
In interviews reported by Nigerian outlets, Daura says he remained loyal to Buhari and that any perception of involvement with a group is not supported by his duties. He also argues that Buhari’s administration began to falter after his exit in 2018, while maintaining that irregularities may have existed. Both sources attribute his remarks to an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he characterizes Buhari’s circle as being made up of sycophants who deceived the president and betrayed his trust.
