Lecturers at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, begin an indefinite strike after the university fails to pay their full August 2026 salaries. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNIZIK chapter announces that staff are withdrawing from academic and administrative duties until the complete salary is paid.
AS reported, the union frames the action as a congress-based decision and says it follows the ASUU National Executive Council’s standing directive. It notes that by 7 September 2026 the August salaries remain incomplete, which it describes as exceeding the period set for action. The ASUU chapter calls on university authorities and the Visitor, identified as President Bola Tinubu, to ensure full payment and prevent a repeat. One outlet adds that UNIZIK’s public relations director declines to comment when contacted, while both accounts focus on the same trigger: incomplete salary payment for August 2026.
