Police in Oyo State say kidnappers abduct two workers of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria at Idi-Ayunre, Oluyole Local Government Area, in Ibadan. According to the police, the incident occurs on 19 May at about 6 p.m., when armed men invade the institute’s premises and take away two staff members. The Oyo State Police Command subsequently arrests two suspects, identified as Shehu and Abubakar, in connection with the abduction, following police investigations. The state police public relations officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, issues a statement confirming the arrests and linking the suspects to the case. Premium Times also reports that police dismiss reports circulating about an Ibadan “mass kidnapping,” stating that the confirmed case involves the abduction of the two cocoa institute staff members. As of the latest reports, police have not publicly detailed the outcome of investigations beyond the arrests, including the whereabouts of the abducted workers or whether additional suspects are involved.
