Multiple outlets report findings from an investigation led by the YouTube channel Gamers Nexus that LG smart TVs log and transmit information about users and their homes, including while the TVs are offline or in standby.
According to the report, researchers tested retail LG OLED TVs and used packet captures and other monitoring to observe the sets scanning nearby Wi‑Fi networks and local devices, recording audio via built-in microphones, and using audio and video sampling to identify what is being viewed. The investigation says location-related details and information about nearby hardware are provided to LG systems described as “LG Ad Solutions.”
The outlets also describe that microphone recording appears to continue even after internet access is removed or the TV is disconnected. In that scenario, audio files reportedly remain stored locally and are uploaded once connectivity returns. The coverage notes that Gamers Nexus worked with other YouTubers and independent security researchers on the testing, and it references earlier allegations involving LG software on Windows PCs. The reported claims focus on data collection behavior and persistency rather than proving intent or specific end uses.
