Police in London launch a murder investigation after bus driver Sergei Krajev, 64, dies following an assault on Battersea Bridge. According to reports, Krajev is found critically injured in the early hours of Monday, with his bus parked at a stop. The Independent and The Guardian state the incident follows a confrontation on the pavement near the bridge shortly before 12.30am. He receives first aid at the scene and is taken to hospital. BBC News reports he is found critically injured on Monday, while the Evening Standard and The Guardian say he dies in hospital on Tuesday.
The Guardian adds that police believe Krajev is attacked after the confrontation. Gary Jones, 32, is arrested at the scene and is subsequently charged with causing grievous bodily harm. He appears at Wimbledon magistrates’ court and is remanded in custody, with a further court appearance listed for 15 June at Kingston Crown Court. The reports also include a family tribute to Krajev following his death.
