Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and several Rivers State political figures reportedly hold a strategic meeting in Spain ahead of the 2027 elections. Multiple outlets say the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who is described as having recently aligned with the Rainbow Coalition, is not present.

The reports name participants including key stakeholders associated with the Rainbow Coalition, such as Chief Marcus Nle Ejii of the South South Development Commission, the Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Senator Mao Ohabunwa, and APC governorship candidate Kingsley Ogundu Chinda. One outlet adds that Wike recently declared Chinda as his preferred candidate to succeed Fubara. Both accounts say the meeting’s purpose is not publicly disclosed, but they link it to preparations for the January and February 2027 elections.

One outlet also references INEC’s timing for the gubernatorial campaign, stating campaign activity for the February 6, 2027 election starts on September 8, underscoring the pre-election context in which the Spain meeting takes place.
