Nigerian Army redeploys senior officers to key commands and staff roles

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the strategic redeployment of senior officers to key command, operational and staff positions across the Nigerian Army.The move is aimed at enhancing operational effectiveness, strengthening leadership and aligning the Army’s command structure with the country’s evolving security challenges.According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the exercise prioritised critical operational theatres and strategic appointments to ensure experienced officers are placed where they can deliver optimal results.Under the new postings, Major General IA Ajose moves from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to serve as Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI.Major General AE Abubakar, previously with Operation HADIN KAI, has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean of the Faculty of Operational Research.Other major changes include:Major General AM Alechenu transferred from the Defence Headquarters Garrison to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.Major General RT Utsaha moved from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Standards and Evaluation to become Commander of the Defence Headquarters Garrison.Major General AM Umar appointed Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, while Major General UM Alkali takes over as head of the Department of Civil-Military Affairs.Major General GS Muhammed redeployed from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director General.Major General JE Osifo moves from the corporation to the Military Pension Board as Chairman.Major General IE Ekpenyong posted to the Defence Headquarters Department of Defence Logistics as Director of Engineering Services.At the operational level, Brigadier Generals AA Bello, MS Adamu, MS Sule, I Sule, E Azenda and AS Bugaje have also been reassigned to various command and staff positions, including new brigade commands and garrison roles.Shaibu charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, operational innovation, professionalism and commitment to duty. He urged them to remain focused on the Army’s constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.The Army said it remains committed to sustaining a dynamic leadership and force-employment framework to improve operational outcomes, strengthen joint and inter-agency coordination, and enhance its capacity to respond to emerging security threats.
