The two watches launched in August 2021 and were among the first Galaxy watches to run Wear OS, replacing earlier Galaxy Watch devices that used Samsung’s Tizen platform. They ship with Wear OS 4 and later receive upgrades, including Wear OS 6.0 with One UI Watch 8 on top, which sources describe as their final Android-version update.
Both outlets point to Samsung’s published security bulletin as the basis for the change, indicating the devices are no longer listed for scheduled security maintenance. While Android Authority frames it as an “end of an era,” GSMArena focuses on the technical update timeline and the specific implication for security patches. Together, the reports consistently indicate users will no longer receive any updates after the current support window ends.
