Maharashtra is moving to implement its Aggregator Policy 2026 for app-based taxi services and has directed companies to submit complete driver details to the Transport Department within three months. The information is intended to verify drivers’ identities and documents, including domicile, as part of the state’s stated focus on passenger safety and proper eligibility checks.
The decision follows a review meeting chaired by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik at Mantralaya. Representatives from Bharat Taxi, Rapido, Uber, Ola, Shalini Cabs, and Cityflo, along with Transport Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar and other officials, take part in the discussions. Officials also plan to require practical Marathi language skills for drivers and to issue badges for those who meet eligibility criteria.
Sources also state that eligible drivers would be enrolled in the state welfare board for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers and owners, enabling access to schemes and benefits available under labour laws for drivers and their families. The department says applications and documents will be checked strictly to prevent accidents and criminal incidents, with passenger safety prioritized.
