SDP’s Adewole Adebayo says he would restrain Wike’s speech with sellotape

Social Democratic Party (SDP) 2027 presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has said he would place sellotape over the mouth of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike if he ever appointed him to a position in his administration.Adebayo made the remark during an interview with Symfoni TV while discussing governance, the performance of the Tinubu administration and recent political developments, including the Osun State election.He combined praise for Wike’s work rate with sharp criticism of the minister’s public style. “I respect Wike for one thing: that he has a good work ethic. He can work,” Adebayo said. He noted that earlier FCT ministers achieved far less and argued that if state works commissioners delivered at Wike’s level, Nigeria’s infrastructure would be significantly better.Adebayo acknowledged that contracts under Wike may be inflated and that value for money could be lacking, but insisted visible progress is being made. He said travel has become easier and everyday life has improved because of the ongoing projects.Despite the recognition of Wike’s output, Adebayo described the minister as a “bad example for Nigerian politics.” He criticised what he called Wike’s style of public communication and the glorification of force and state power.The comments come as Adebayo positions himself as an alternative voice ahead of the 2027 elections, focusing on governance standards and leadership conduct.
