The Supreme Court rejects an anticipatory bail request of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s aide, Sumit Roy, and the West Bengal CID then detains him in connection with the Salboni land scam case, sources say.
Roy is accused in the alleged illegal sale of government land in Salboni, with proceeds reportedly deposited into the party’s account. The Free Press Journal reports that CID officers pick him up from Banerjee’s Kalighat residence and bring him to the state CID headquarters, where he had been summoned on multiple occasions before.
Both outlets say the top court had earlier stayed Roy’s arrest and directed him to cooperate with the investigation, but later steps remove that protection. The Supreme Court also vacates an earlier order from August 6, according to one report, allowing CID action to proceed following the denial of anticipatory bail.
