PepsiCo India inaugurates its first food manufacturing plant in Assam’s Nalbari district, with operations spread across 44.2 acres. The facility is presented as a new manufacturing foothold in India’s Northeast and a supply-chain base intended to support local and regional demand for packaged snacks and ready-to-eat products.
The outlets describe the plant as part of PepsiCo’s broader strategy to expand manufacturing beyond major industrial hubs. PepsiCo aims to shorten logistics to better serve consumers in the Northeast and to connect with local agriculture through procurement arrangements involving farmers and intermediaries such as agri-entrepreneurs. One report also frames the expansion as part of PepsiCo’s goal of placing India among its top global “anchor” markets.
The reports differ mainly in emphasis. One source highlights PepsiCo’s plan to integrate 80,000 smallholder farmers and reduce logistics costs. The other focuses on the investment figure and rollout details, saying the project involves Rs 778 crore, is inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and supports about 700 direct and indirect jobs, along with assurances for thousands of local farmers.
