Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit India on September 12–13 for the BRICS summit, marking his first trip to the country in about seven years. Both India and China are described as working to stabilise bilateral relations as the visit approaches.
In India, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) says the Red Fort bombing attacker, Umar-un-Nabi, originally intended to target Lal Mandir. The attacker later redirected his plan to the Red Fort after encountering heavy traffic and a heavy police presence near the temple before detonating the IED. Sources also report that Karnataka has issued a directive requiring “Vande Mataram” to be sung or played at state government events, with the order specifying use of only the first two stanzas in most cases, except when top constitutional authorities are present.
