Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh speaks about how patriarchy shapes women’s lives, during the trailer launch of the upcoming web series “Hunkkaar: The Roar.” She says women often start at a disadvantage and face an expectation to demonstrate their worth, regardless of their achievements, role, or position.
Shaikh argues the issue is not simply a lack of intelligence or agency among women, but the way society is structured. She describes experiences in which she was the only woman in meetings where projects were framed as female-focused or empowerment-oriented, and where women’s perspectives were dismissed or redirected. She adds that society tells women to “wait a minute” and first prove themselves.
Both outlets report that Shaikh also highlights patriarchy as something that can be internalised by both men and women, rather than being blamed only on men. She says women have to learn to challenge these deeply ingrained norms and stand up for their own perspectives. “Hunkkaar: The Roar” is set to premiere on JioHotstar on September 25, 2026, according to Times of India.
