Odisha is set to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday, according to an alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). IMD forecasts downpours across 22 districts, with particularly intense rainfall expected in Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
The IMD alert uses color-coded warnings: orange warnings are issued for five districts and yellow warnings for 15 others. The forecast also points to disruptions from the weather. In Mayurbhanj, schools close and private classes are halted after 10.
In addition to land-based impacts, fishermen are advised against going on ocean expeditions for safety. The caution is stated to remain in place until September 11, reflecting expected adverse conditions in coastal waters.
