Meta is asking some employees in its Applied AI organization to return to manager roles, reversing part of an earlier restructuring that reduced management layers. Reporting across outlets says the change targets an opt-in program for employees who previously moved from management into individual contributor work.
The initiative follows Meta’s decision earlier this year to consolidate its AI efforts under the Applied AI unit, which absorbed about 7,000 employees. Multiple reports describe a reorg effort that flattened teams and diminished managerial positions within the unit. As a result, some workers who were demoted or reassigned as individual contributors are now being offered a path back into management.
Outlets characterize the move differently in tone, with some describing it as a reversal and others framing it as a new hiring or leadership push.
