Nigerian businessman Edwin Omokhuale, a Lagos real estate CEO, is arrested in Dublin, Ireland, over an alleged $23 million fraud. The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) says he is detained by officers of Ireland’s An Garda Síochána. The arrest follows an investigation linked to a scheme involving an Australian mining company.

According to the NCA, the alleged fraud takes place in early 2023. Investigators say Omokhuale and others deceive employees of the Australian firm into transferring about US$23 million into accounts controlled by the suspects. Nigerian Eye adds that Omokhuale is detained at Dublin Airport as he attempts to board a flight to Paris. The NCA states he faces money laundering charges.

Both outlets frame the arrest as part of international cooperation between law enforcement agencies. Nigerian Eye reports that Omokhuale is expected to appear in a Dublin court as extradition proceedings to return him to the UK begin. The Daily Post Nigeria similarly cites the NCA’s account and the alleged value of the fraud but provides fewer details about timing and location within Dublin.
