In Fatehpur district’s Hardauli village in Uttar Pradesh, villagers tie a mobile network technician to a telecom tower after becoming angry over perceived poor connectivity. A video shared by outlets shows the technician restrained near the tower while villagers gather around him.
Reports say the incident lasts for around two hours. Villagers accuse the mobile network of failing to provide adequate service for roughly two years. Police intervene after being alerted by another villager and rescue the technician.
Following the rescue, police register a case. One report states that an FIR is filed against “unknown villagers” based on the technician’s complaint, and that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances around the restraint and the roles of those involved.
