The Federal Government says it has secured fresh investment commitments from Chinese power engineering firms to address Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe announces the development in a statement issued through his spokesperson, Adeola Labzy.
The announcement follows high-level talks in Beijing with Chinese companies and financial institutions as part of an ongoing Nigeria–China power sector mission. Officials say the engagements are meant to convert partnerships into “bankable,” fully financed projects under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). The discussions include benchmarks tied to measurable delivery such as additional megawatts, transmission lines to be energised, and improved hours of reliable power.
Across the two reports, both describe the same sequence: Tegbe’s meetings with Chinese stakeholders, the stated goal of accelerating PPI delivery, and an emphasis on tightening timelines and shifting from traditional EPC arrangements toward broader full-scope partnerships. Both also frame the move as a response to Nigeria’s continuing lack of consistent power supply.
