Netflix is expanding its Japanese programming lineup through a partnership with Japan’s public broadcaster NHK. Multiple outlets report that the streaming service has secured rights to 20 NHK dramas plus additional content, including its first variety show for the Japanese market. The announcement includes details that Netflix will begin launching six of the NHK titles next month. These include a Taiga drama, “Strategist KANBE,” as well as “asadora” and “Drama 10” formats, such as the morning serial “Mampuku” and “Descending …” (Drama 10). The NHK deal is described as part of Netflix’s broader effort to grow its presence in Japan, adding a larger slate of locally produced series across different long-running Japanese TV categories. In addition, one outlet reports a separate deal involving Nippon TV’s “Monday Late Show,” further broadening Netflix’s planned Japan slate beyond NHK programming. The releases are timed for upcoming weeks and months as Netflix rolls out the titles under these agreements.
