Lagos State Police Command orders officers accused of assaulting Olugbenga Adeleke to report to the Commissioner of Police after a video of his account circulates publicly. Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi says the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ebenezer Police Station, Alagbado/Ojokoro, is directed to produce the implicated officers for further action.

According to Adeleke’s allegations, he was stopped on September 6, 2026 by men not in uniform, hit in the face, and taken to the police station. He says he is beaten again, detained overnight without a clear explanation, and later told to pay money for bail despite no offence being stated. He also claims extortion affected other detainees and that he suffers an eye injury, which he says he needs explained. He has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and human rights groups.

Both outlets report the police have opened an investigation following the viral video. The Nigerian Eye specifies that the DPO is to appear on Monday, September 14, 2026, and that Adeleke has been invited but has not yet responded, while directing the officers before the CP.
